Roof renovation in a different way: glass instead of roofing

The roof protects a house from wind and weather. However, the permanent strain requires a renewal at some point. If a roof renovation becomes necessary, the appearance, energy efficiency and use of the attics can be optimised in one fell swoop, especially with pitched roofs.

On average 50 years a professionally roofed roof protects the house from wind and weather. Due to the exposed location, the time comes for a roof renovation. Moist or leaking spots, fallen and slipped roof tiles or even insect pests like the house longhorn are typical signs. The desire for a reduction in heating costs or additional usable living space in the attic can also make renovation attractive.

There are many standard solutions. As a rule, only the materials for insulation and roofing differ in the core. The use of glass is quite different. Large-format glass surfaces provide a magnificent view and an unusual roof design. They are also hard to beat in terms of durability, protection, safety and energy efficiency.

Roof spaces are predestined to create a bright, friendly living atmosphere. Due to the inclines, at least twice as much sunlight can reach the living area – provided the window surfaces are adequate – as with facade windows of the same size. Large roof windows are available in various versions and can be arranged in many different ways. The size of the glass surface should correspond to the individual requirements for living comfort. Modular sliding roof windows from Sunshine, for example, are impressive.

Depending on the design, they are opened vertically or horizontally and allow an extraordinary amount of light and brightness into the room.

The maximum installation dimensions of twelve metres wide and four metres high depend on the installation angle (10° to 90°), the expected snow load and the installation height above ground – and sea level.

Various types of glass with a thickness of up to 44 millimetres, 2 or 3-pane glazing over solar control glass and active glass to support cleaning fulfil all the wishes of the building owner.

Automated variants are available to move the large areas comfortably. The motors used by Sunshine are powerful, quiet and energy-efficient. High-quality aluminium profiles, which today can be designed in all RAL colours, even two-coloured inside and outside, ensure a secure hold for decades. In addition, awnings, roller shutters, interior blinds, blackout blinds and automatic controls for temperature, sun, wind and rain are available.
